Obituary: Mariem Hassan - photographs at Africa Oye 2011

Sad to hear one of my favourite artists has passed away. Mariem Hassan, the so called ‘Voice of the Sahara’, died of bone cancer aged 57 on 22nd August 2015 in Algeria. I was lucky enough to hear and photograph Mariem when she appeared at Africa Oye in Liverpool, back in 2011. Beautiful music and an inspiring life story.

Some of my favourite images below. Please contact me directly if you would like to use / licence the photographs.

"Just wanted to drop you a line to say thank-you so much for the brilliant job you did for us in Bootle barracks the other week – we hit the Echo and also the Plymouth Daily (where we have an interest in veterans services) so we were dead chuffed."
