I guess it won't be a surprise that for a PR Events Photographer commissions are few and far between in the month of August. Yep, everyone is on holiday - it would be literally the worst time of the year to hold a conference or run a PR campaign ! I usually try and have the month off, enjoying a break from social media and updating blogs and the usual admin that comes with running a successful photography business.
But as we approach the end of September I have definitely hit the ground running with photography work. Both in the past few weeks and getting those all important bookings secured across the rest of the Autumn. Plus a couple of multi-day conferences already contracted for 2025.
Having the Labour Party conference land in Liverpool has genuinely been a help. I've had over a dozen inquiries from all sorts of organisations and had to turn down quite a few due to a lack of availability.
Being a long member of the NUJ definitely helps with Trade Union photography inquiries and work - many organisations use the NUJ Freelance Directory as a source for suppliers and I have been told in private, some only ever use those who are trade unionists - which is fair enough to me. I've been with the NUJ since 2010, before that a Unison member and for many years a community member with Unite. Organising and activism are at the centre of strong communities and unions still play a massive role in that.
So anyway, enough of that, time for a quick round up of my favourite images from the last month.

Recently I was back at one of my favourite venues in Merseyside - Spaces at The Spine, covering an conference event called Early Career Researchers Network organised by The British Academy.
The media world doesn't wait. Whether it's a press release, a breaking news story, or a social campaign, you need great images fast. Slow delivery doesn't just cost time — it costs you the story.
